What is DigiByte?
The DigiByte project has historical importance: it belongs to the first generation of altcoins and focused its development on the issue of security. It was born as a Bitcoin fork and anticipated some of the trends and features that later became central to the history of the crypto world. DigiByte’s three pillars are network security, speed and capacity. Among the three founding levels of the proprietary blockchain, there is also one dedicated to “smart contracts”, conceived as an application layer on blockchain.
Why follow DigiByte?
The ecosystem’s cryptocurrency is called DigiByte (DGB). The network security and block validation mechanism are based on a Proof-of-Work algorithm. It therefore involves mining, through ASIC hardware. DigiByte boasts the largest blockchain ever, with over 5 million validated blocks. DGB has a maximum supply of 21 billion, with one block validated every 15 seconds.
How was it created?
The founder and creator of the entire chain is Jared Tate, known by the nickname “DigiMan” during the first crypto era. Tate recently retired from the business, leaving the role of spokesman to co-founder Rudy Bouwman. Today, Tate is considered an authority in the crypto world: he studies and writes about web3 and blockchain. The DigiByte Foundation remains active today, with development projects and a strong focus on the DigiByte community.
