What is Illuvium?
The Illuvium project is part of the gaming sector, which often crosses paths with that of blockchain and cryptocurrencies. It’s an open-world video game with role-playing mechanics and gameplay that harks back to the sacred monsters of the genre, from Pokémon to the Monster Hunter series. In this case, however, the entire ecosystem is based on the Ethereum blockchain and governed by tokens and NFTs. Illuvium’s greatest innovation is its ambitious graphics: technically, the title aspires to compete with the high-budget “triple As”. It is one of the rare examples of 3D video games built on Ethereum.
Why follow Illuvium?
The project’s reference token is also called Illuvium, abbreviated to ILV: a crypto that allows you to buy objects, upgrades and lands within the game. Outside the game world, meanwhile, ILV can be staked to earn staking rewards deriving also from players’ actions. Another fundamental element is NFTs, used mainly to mint “creatures” (Illuvials) for use in combat.
How was it created?
Development of the video game began in 2020. Over 150 developers from all over the world are involved. There are two founders: Kieran and Aaron Warwick. Over time, the project has managed to attract some partners and investors. Bitcoin.com, Quantstamp and Chainlink are among those featured on the official website. The whitepaper sets out a precise and transparent roadmap which ends in 2023 with the game’s release in the mobile version.
