What is Illuvium (ILV)
Illuvium is one of the most ambitious crypto gaming projects: an open-world role-playing game, inspired by titles such as Pokémon and Monster Hunter, built on the Ethereum ecosystem, in which players explore an open world and capture creatures called “Illuvials”, represented as NFTs. The stated goal is to offer a “triple-A” quality gaming experience, where items have real, on-chain verifiable ownership.
Note: Illuvium is not currently supported by Young Platform; this page is purely informational. ILV is the token at the heart of the ecosystem, used for in-game functions and governance.
How it works
The ownership of items and creatures is certified by NFTs, which players can trade. ILV can be put into staking to take part in the ecosystem, with any rewards being variable, dependent on the protocol and not guaranteed. To reduce costs and improve the experience, part of the infrastructure relies on Ethereum scaling solutions.
The model combines “play-to-earn” elements with particular attention to graphics and gameplay quality, an aspect that distinguishes Illuvium from many simpler blockchain games.
How it began
Development began in 2020 with a large team. The co-founders are brothers Kieran and Aaron Warwick; partners include entities such as Chainlink. The project attracted significant attention, also due to its high technical ambitions.
Like many on-chain gaming projects, it is strongly tied to the performance of the GameFi sector, subject to cycles of strong interest alternating with cooling phases.

Like all crypto-assets, ILV has shown a highly volatile price trend. Its quotations can be influenced by the general trend of the crypto market, by the actual launch and success of the game and by interest in GameFi.
