Coin Burning

Coin burning is the process by which a quantity of crypto-assets is permanently removed from circulation. This generally happens by sending the tokens to a special address (called an eater address or burn address) from which they can no longer be withdrawn.

Burning is provided for by some protocols as part of their issuance rules, for example, to reduce the total supply. It is a technical mechanism: its effect on the value of the crypto-asset depends on many factors and is in no way guaranteed.
