What is Ethereum Classic (ETC)
Ethereum Classic is the “original” Ethereum blockchain, born from a hard fork in 2016. ETC keeps its original code and uses a Proof of Work consensus mechanism; the token serves as the native asset for the network’s operation and the payment of fees.
Note: Ethereum Classic is not currently supported by Young Platform; this page is purely informational.
How it began: the 2016 hard fork
ETC’s origin is tied to the 2016 attack on the “The DAO” project, in which around 3.6 million Ether were stolen. The Ethereum community split: one part chose to intervene with an upgrade to reverse the transactions (giving rise to today’s Ethereum), the other decided to preserve the principle of blockchain immutability, continuing with the original chain, Ethereum Classic.
Like all crypto-assets, ETC has shown a highly volatile price trend; past performance is not a guarantee of future results.
