What is Kaspa (KAS)
Kaspa is a blockchain that aims to renew the Proof of Work consensus mechanism, the same as Bitcoin, while overcoming some of its speed limits. It uses a BlockDAG (Directed Acyclic Graph) architecture: unlike linear chains, in which blocks follow one another one at a time, it allows multiple blocks to be created and validated in parallel, increasing speed without giving up the logic of mining.
KAS is the network’s crypto-asset: it is distributed to miners as a reward for validation and is required to pay fees and interact with the network. Any mining rewards are variable and not guaranteed.
How it works
Kaspa’s technological core is the GhostDAG protocol, an advanced variant of the consensus mechanism devised by Satoshi Nakamoto: instead of discarding blocks produced at the same time, it orders and integrates them all, reducing waste and increasing the number of blocks per second.
This approach seeks a different balance between the properties of Proof of Work (security, decentralisation) and the need for greater scalability.
How it began
Kaspa was launched in November 2021 under the leadership of Yonatan Sompolinsky, a researcher who had studied the GhostDAG protocol together with Professor Aviv Zohar. A distinctive feature is its “fair” launch: KAS could initially only be obtained from miners through peer-to-peer transactions, without an ICO or venture capital funding, similar to Bitcoin’s early distribution.
This setup helped build a large community around the project.
Price trends and what to consider
Like all crypto-assets, KAS has shown a highly volatile price trend. Its quotations can be influenced by the general trend of the crypto market, by mining activity on the network and by the project’s technical development.
Past performance is not a guarantee of future results. Any decision should be based on an independent and informed assessment of the risks.
