In the financial context, the term ‘capital’ refers to funds or assets owned by a company, individual or other economic entity. Capital represents a financial resource that can be used to invest, support operations, cover expenses and generate profits. 

The term can be confused with ‘assets’, which indicates both financial and non-financial possessions, while ‘capital’ refers only to financial assets.
