Prediction Market
A prediction market is a market in which contracts are traded whose value depends on the outcome of a future and uncertain event, for example, of an economic, political or sporting nature.
The price of these contracts reflects participants’ collective expectations about the probability that the event will occur. When the outcome materialises, the contracts are settled accordingly. There are traditional prediction markets and blockchain-based prediction markets, managed through smart contracts.
These are speculative instruments that involve high risks and a possible loss of the capital committed. In several jurisdictions, they are subject to specific regulatory restrictions.
