What is Ondo Finance (ONDO)
Ondo Finance is a decentralised finance (DeFi) platform focused on Real World Assets (RWA): its goal is to bring on-chain access to traditional finance instruments, in particular short-term US government bonds. It is one of the reference projects of a sector — the tokenisation of real assets — that has attracted growing attention, including from institutional players.
Its best-known product is the stablecoin USDY, linked to US Treasuries. ONDO is the protocol’s governance token.
How it works and the products
Ondo offers products that aim to make the returns typical of traditional financial instruments accessible on-chain; some of these (such as OUSG) are, however, aimed at professional investors, with high entry thresholds.
One important point should be clarified: any return associated with products like USDY is variable, not guaranteed by Young Platform and depends on the issuer and the underlying instruments. The growth of total value locked (TVL) on the protocol is one of the indicators watched to measure its adoption.
How it began
Ondo Finance was founded by Nathan Allman and raised funding from investors including Pantera Capital, Wintermute and Coinbase Ventures. The ONDO token was launched in early 2024.
The project is part of a broader trend of convergence between traditional finance and blockchain, a theme that entails both opportunities and regulatory uncertainties still evolving.
