What is Axie Infinity (AXS)
Axie Infinity is one of the best-known decentralised video games in the sector, based on the play-to-earn model: the gameplay consists of collecting, upgrading and trading creatures called Axies, each of which corresponds to an NFT. The game’s economy is based on two tokens: SLP, used in the game’s mechanics, and AXS (Axie Infinity Shards).
What the AXS token is for
AXS is built on the Ethereum blockchain following the ERC-20 standard and serves a dual function, utility and governance: it is used to take part in some game activities and to vote on the project’s decisions. It can also be staked, with variable and non-guaranteed AXS rewards. The maximum supply is limited to 270 million units, with the last AXS expected to be issued in 2026.
What it is and how it started
Development is managed by the software house Sky Mavis, based in Vietnam, founded by Trung Nguyen and Aleksander Larsen. The project was one of the most cited cases in the wave of blockchain gaming. Past performance is not a guarantee of future results.
