What is Gnosis?

Gnosis is a protocol created as a blockchain-based prediction market. A platform to make estimations about future events and compete with the opposing opinion, receiving rewards when your prediction comes true. Gnosis was founded in 2015 and combines data science with a market database to predict events and trends and develop decentralised applications. However, the project then set itself apart from mere prediction markets, building other decentralised infrastructures to support its “core” function. 

Why follow Gnosis? 

The ecosystem involves different levels of development: the main level, which handles smart contracts for prediction markets, is managed by Conditional Tokens. There is also the service level, with chatbots and stablecoins. The security level is covered by Gnosis Safe, a multi-signature account and the decentralised Cow Protocol exchange. Finally, the application level is supported by Zodiac, a platform that provides tools and standards for DAOs. Gnosis’ native token is the GNO, which was launched at the first ICO and has a total supply of 10 million. 

How was it created?

Launched during the first era of altcoins, the founders of Gnosis are Martin Köppelmann (CEO), Stefan George (CTO) and Dr Friederike Ernst (COO). The founders began working on the project in the winter of 2015, implementing it on Ethereum in August of the same year. Gnosis was the first real DApp on Vitalik Buterin’s blockchain. 2017 was the year of the ICO, which raised $12.5 million in funding in the first 10 minutes. The network’s success continued over the following years, leading to the creation of a dedicated DAO (GnosisDAO).
