What is Gnosis (GNO)
Gnosis is one of the pioneering projects of decentralised finance (DeFi): born as a blockchain-based prediction market (a platform to take positions on the outcome of future events), it later transformed into an infrastructure provider for the Ethereum ecosystem.
Note: Gnosis is not currently supported by Young Platform; this page is purely informational. GNO is the project’s reference token, linked to governance and the use of its products.
The Gnosis ecosystem
Over the years Gnosis has developed several tools that became sector references: Gnosis Safe (now Safe), one of the most used multi-signature wallets for holding on-chain assets; CoW Protocol, an exchange mechanism that protects users from some forms of transaction manipulation; and the Conditional Tokens underlying prediction markets. There is also a dedicated network, the Gnosis Chain.
This evolution turned Gnosis from a single application into a fully-fledged set of infrastructure for decentralised applications (dapps).
How it began
Gnosis was founded in 2015 by Martin Köppelmann, Stefan George and Friederike Ernst, and is considered one of the first decentralised applications built on Ethereum. The GNO token was launched in 2017 through an ICO with which the project raised 12.5 million dollars in a few minutes.
Development is now also overseen by the GnosisDAO, which directs the ecosystem’s resources and decisions.

Like all crypto-assets, GNO has shown a highly volatile price trend. Its quotations can be influenced by the general trend of the crypto market, by the adoption of the ecosystem’s products and by the decisions of the governance community.
