What is Pepe (PEPE)
Pepe (PEPE) is a meme coin inspired by the popular internet meme “Pepe the Frog”, launched in May 2023 on the Ethereum blockchain following the ERC-20 standard. In the months after launch it rapidly reached a very high market capitalisation, becoming one of the best-known meme coins on the market alongside Dogecoin and Shiba Inu.

How it works and the context
PEPE is a token created “for fun”, with no particular technical utility: it has an anonymous team and simple tokenomics, with a huge overall supply. To aid its spread, part of the supply was reserved for exchange listings. Its value is driven almost entirely by speculation and the sentiment of online communities.
Pepe’s success is often cited as an example of how, in the crypto market, a token with no fundamentals can reach high valuations on virality alone: a phenomenon that entails very high risks.
Price trends and what to consider
Like all meme coins, Pepe is a strongly speculative crypto-asset, with an extremely volatile price trend: its value can swing very widely and fall to zero, for reasons unrelated to technical fundamentals.
Past performance is not a guarantee of future results.
