An acronym that stands for Initial Exchange Offering, a fundraising event administered by a cryptocurrency exchange. IEOs had the biggest momentum in 2019, when Bitfinex raised over $1.5 billion through this system. It’s usually used to launch new cryptocurrencies on the market by outsourcing legal and marketing aspects to an exchange, thus also speeding up the listing process.
